Farmington Municipal School District (FMS) contracted with Architectural Research Consultants, Incorporated (ARC) to prepare an update to its facilities master plan (FMP).

The district has about 1.8 million GSF of permanent buildings and 84,000 GSF of portable buildings on 640 acres of land. ARC assessed the district’s schools and administrative support facilities; projected enrollment based on demographic and economic analysis of the district; and identified the capacity and classroom needs of school facilities.

ARC identified $94.2 million in capital projects for the schools and administrative facilities based on observed deficiencies. We worked with a district committee to develop a capital plan that prioritizes projects aligning with a capital funding strategy.

ARC compiled a set of facility drawings of the district’s physical plant inventory. The district can use the drawings to record changes and will assist the district in facilities management. ARC also created color-coded school facility utilization “maps” to assist the district in facility use planning.

With approximately $26 million over the next five years, the district will implement renovation and replacement of facilities based on a prioritized order of need. ARC created a web site for the district to use in tracking the implementation of the plan as well as the condition of roofing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
