Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) tasked EEA Consulting Engineers, along with subconsultants Architectural Research Consultants, Incorporated (ARC), Bohannan Huston Incorporated, and Balis and Company, with preparing a facility program, conceptual design, cost estimate, and recommendations for sustainable features for a new New Employee Integration Center facility for the SNL main campus site in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Currently, uncleared personnel and students are housed in existing trailers that provide a poor work environment and are in poor condition. The new building will house newly hired employees awaiting security clearances and provide office, meeting, and training space as well as meeting and flex space for existing, cleared SNL personnel.

ARC was project lead, and was responsible for preparing the facility program, conceptual site and building plans, and development of the performance specifications. ARC identified project requirements through interviews, facility tours, and workshops. SNL strategic planners conducted the site analysis.

The conceptual design proposes a three-story, 23,139 gross square feet structure that provides office, meeting, training, collaboration, private, break room, and outdoor spaces to accommodate 100 new hires, 58 summer interns and other selected offices. The total probable estimated construction cost was $10.6 million.
