The Village of Milan contracted with Architectural Research Consultants, Incorporated (ARC) to develop a Comprehensive Plan Update of the Village’s 2009 plan. The update encompassed the functional elements that bear on physical development in an internally consistent manner, including land use, transportation, economic development, infrastructure and housing. The updated plan contains new elements for facilities, water and hazards mitigation, which were not included in the 2009 plan.

In developing the update, the Village sought public involvement to assure that the plan would be properly considered and have broad support through a series of steering committee meetings, public meetings and a public survey.

The plan lays out the Village’s general, long-range approach to be considered when making decisions about new development, infrastructure or improvement programs. Among other matters, the plan:

• Considered approaches to help homeowners deal with abandoned and nuisance mobile homes

• Outlined land use and marketing approaches for an industrial park

• Promoted developing a walkable Village core with a mix of services and attractions

• Suggested methods for promoting development of travel accommodations along the I-40 trucking corridor
