Architectural Research Consultants, Incorporated (ARC) prepared an update to the City of Farmington Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) Plan.

Planning activities included extensive analysis of existing conditions including a market analysis (conducted by EPS, Inc.), identification of priority projects and development of an implementation strategy.

ARC worked closely with a steering committee and the City of Farmington MRA Commission to update projects identified in the original 2009 plan. With direction from the steering committee, the planning team hosted a series of public engagement events includinga two-day public design charrette where the team presented proposed priority projects and sought input on potential additional projects.

A major focus of the plan was the Animas Area neighborhood, a neighborhood positioned south of the Historic Downtown and north of the Animas River. The area is transitional from heavy industrial to more mixed use with housing and light manufacturing focused on outdoor recreation and the outdoor recreation industry.

The plan worked to forge alliances between many of the area’s active community groups to accomplish specific projects including historic preservation and restoration, riparian restoration and water feature and recreation attractions, and local maker groups and incubators to develop a complete concept to market support network and expand value-added agriculture in the area.
