Community Planner
Architectural Research Consultants, Incorporated (ARC) – Albuquerque, New Mexico ARC seeks a full-time Community Planner to join our multidisciplinary team in Albuquerque. you will lead and support complex planning projects for public-sector clients across New Mexico, with a strong focus on data-driven, implementable community plans.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage professional planning projects primarily for public clients, including
comprehensive, housing, transportation, hazard mitigation, economic development, and downtown/redevelopment plans.
• Prepare plans and studies addressing land use, urban design, housing, transportation, environment, economic development, parks and recreation, utilities, facilities, hazards, and related topics. Our practice has focused on comprehensive plans for municipalities, counties and tribal entities, affordable housing plans, land use regulations, downtown plans, and hazards mitigation plans. We are open to pursuing other areas of planning.
• Conduct demographic and community analyses, including school enrollment projections and other forecasts that guide public capital investments.
• Develop public policy and implementation strategies, including funding approaches and action plans.
• Plan and facilitate public outreach: meetings, workshops, events, surveys, and project communications.
• Prepare high-quality written reports, presentations, and graphics that clearly communicate findings and recommendations.
• Prepare proposals.
Required Qualifications
• Professional degree in planning, urban design, or a related field such as architecture or landscape architecture.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in community planning, community development, policy analysis, geographic/demographic research, or a closely related field.
• Strong writing and communication skills, with demonstrated experience producing high-quality planning documents.
• Proven analytical skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and quantitative analysis.
• Proficiency with standard office software (including Excel) and web-based applications.
• Experience using visual tools to communicate planning concepts; familiarity with InDesign, GIS, or similar software is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within New Mexico.
• Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), or a clear interest in pursuing certification, is preferred.
