ABOUT ARC

Decades of asking the question first

Most architecture firms begin when a project is already defined. ARC works on either side of that moment — before design, establishing what is genuinely needed and what it will cost, and after occupancy, measuring whether the building performs.

That pre- and post-design position is unusual, and it is the reason our work tends to survive contact with a legislature, a board, or a bond election. Much of what we produce exists to communicate a real need to the people who control the money.

1976
ARC is founded

Established in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a firm specializing in planning, programming and architectural research rather than building design.

1988/89
FCA Developed

ARC staff acquire FoxBase database software and develop the first FCA database application for inputting evaluation data and using the database to store deficiencies, pictures of deficiencies, and CIPs with costs associated with bringing facilities up to client standards

2000's
Web Based Applications Developed

In the early 2000s ARC staff began developing web-based applications and began migrating the FCA database apps to web-based apps and consolidating the FCA input and reporting processes into a single comprehensive web app.

2004
Utilization and Capacity Tool Developed

ARC develops the first web-based Utilization and Capacity Analysis Tool (UCAT) for Loudoun County Schools in Loudoun County, Virginia. The UCAT included interactive floor plans to help schools keep utilization and capacity data updated.

2006
Web App Development Expanded

ARC began developing more web-based applications for clients. Since then, ARC has developed more than 800 web-based applications for Albuquerque Public Schools alone.

2010's
Condition assessment at scale

Practice matures around national Facility Condition Index paired with ARC's own adequacy scoring method.

2021
ARC Relocates

After 45 years of calling downtown Albuquerque home, ARC made the difficult decision to relocate. ARC now calls the far northeast heights home with the office located on the southeast corner of Jefferson and Alameda.

2025
UCAT Implementation

ARC begins to implement the UCAT as a standard component of the FCA and FMP web-apps for K-12 schools
